Bodleian Images

Bodleian Images is the online picture library of the Bodleian Libraries and connects picture researchers and publishing editors to the most important, popular and unique images held within the Libraries' ever-growing collections. Bodleian Images allows you to view and buy digital reproductions of manuscripts, rare books, musical texts, maps, illustrations, and photographs, for editorial publication and other use, from anywhere in the world.

About the Bodleian Libraries

The Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford form the largest university library system in the United Kingdom. They include the principal University library, the Bodleian Library, which has been a library of legal deposit for 400 years; major research libraries; and libraries attached to faculties, departments and other institutions of the University. The combined library collections number more than 11 million printed items, in addition to 70,000+ e-journals and vast quantities of materials in other formats.

Image Quality

Bodleian Images supplies digital images of the highest quality for reproduction and display (min. 300 dpi). Our team of expert imaging technicians are located within our special collections library, the Weston Library, alongside our rarest and most fragile collections. The team operate in a fully colour managed environment, and are fully trained in the latest imaging capture processes and conservational measures. Images will be captured with expert knowledge and to the highest standard possible.

Once an order has been confirmed, the images will be available immediately to be downloaded as a JPEG. Each digital photograph will be supplied with subject information and metadata for credit and copyright. Please contact us if you require digital files in TIFF format and we can discuss your requirements further.
